Concert program notes
November 1, 2025 2:00PM
Welcome to our Beethoven VII concert
directed by Dr. Rob Nordan, the orchestra's founder and Music Director.
Our Beethoven featured works include
the Triple Concerto and Symphony No. 7.
1st half of the program – Beethoven Triple Concerto in C Major (Opus 56) for solo violin, solo cello, solo piano, and orchestra.
Our featured soloists are Daniel Allen on violin (our Concert Master), Christopher Connolly on cello, and Dr. Martin Jones on piano. It was composed from 1803 to 1804.
There are three movements:
I. Allegro
II. Largo (going straight into the 3rd movement)
III. Rondo alla polacca
The choice of the three solo instruments effectively makes this a concerto for piano trio, and it is the only concerto Beethoven ever completed for more than one solo instrument, also being the only concerto he wrote for cello.
INTERMISSION
2nd half of the program – Beethoven Symphony No. 7 in A Major (Opus 92).
It was composed between 1811 and 1812, as Beethoven was improving his health in the Bohemian spa town of Teplitz. There are four movements:
I. Poco sostenuto – Vivace (A Major)
II. Allegretto (a minor)
III. Presto – Assai meno mosso (trio) (F Major, Trion in D Major)
IV. Allegro con brio (A Major)
